About Our Library & Museum
Preserving a Bit of History

The Talbot Library and Museum is located on a two-acre property in Colcord, Delaware County, Oklahoma. Our facility is part Museum and part Research Library.
The property includes:
-
A museum of historical items of the area (Main Building),
-
The Walkingstick Research Library room (Main Building),
-
A Book Store (Main Building),
-
The historic one-room Springtown Schoolhouse,
-
The Adair Building containing large museum items & farm machinery,
-
A Blacksmith Shop, and
-
A Post Office Building.
The Library contains a unique, large collection of materials relating to Cherokee genealogy/history, Indian Territory, Northeast Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. Our founder, Virgil Talbot, started collecting, many years ago, some of the research material that can only be found at Talbot Library and Museum. New items are continually being added.
The Talbot Bookstore is an important part of the facility, offering new and used books for sale. The topics include a wide array of interests related to local history, Cherokee genealogy/history, Indian Territory, Northeast Oklahoma, Northwest Arkansas, the West, and so much more.
A collection of new books are available for purchase at our location in Colcord and at the Talbot Library Online Bookstore.
We also sell a similar variety of interesting and valuable used books at our EBAY bookstore.
We produce the TL&M Genealogy Publication twice annually. We carry back issues of TL&M Genealogy Magazine as well as back issues of the Goingsnake Messenger. A list of contents and ordering information for Back Issues of these publications are listed on the website.
We charge no admission to our facility. Visitors, School Groups, and Researchers are always welcome.
We are an independent non-profit, (501-C3) organization that does not receive government funding.
We operate on donor contributions and book sales.
